Located on Edmonton's main street Jasper Avenue, the Pearl is a new luxury high-rise condominium slated to be the tallest residential building in the city (36 floors high).
ISL teamed with Brinsmead Kennedy Architecture and provided landscape architectural and site development services from concept through construction, including offsite grading, stormwater management and landscape design.
This urban park comprises a 760m2 plaza on top of the building's parkade and features sitting areas, attractive plantings and walkways connecting to the street and surrounding sidewalks. Public access to the site and connection with Jasper Avenue add to the urban feel of this park.
Working closely with the client, ISL's experts were inspired by the tower views of the nearby North Saskatchewan River Valley and created a planned topography and planting strategy to highlight the Pearl's premier location.
Limited Soil Depths
Because of its location on top of the building's parkade, the plaza had limited available soil depths to support vegetation. To overcome this challenge, plant and soil materials were carefully chosen and oblique planting areas anchored by architectural retaining walls were designed to provide visual appeal.
