Louise McKinney Riverfront Park
Louise McKinney Park will become Edmonton's postcard Park. Situated on 13 hectares of river valley at the foot of downtown, the Park will include a unique mix of features, both urban and natural, contemporary and historical, passive and active. In December, 1998, ISL (Butler Krebes & Associates Inc. and Carlyle and Associates) were retained by the City of Edmonton to prepare a master plan for the Park and a detailed design for Phase One development. Through a series of public consultation events including program workshops, design charettes and a public open house, the master plan was prepared with a strong and very positive commitment from stakeholders and community.
As part of our firm’s ongoing involvement in this Park, ISL has designed the first phase of the river promenade and emergency access. This unique river promenade is currently under construction on the shore of the North Saskatchewan River. It features three cantilevered viewing platforms, a 5m precast concrete walkway structure, custom metal railings, benches and lighting. The scope of work included all necessary federal and provincial approvals, coordination of environmental reports, contract documents and construction supervision.
ISL is the prime consultant for the Edmonton Chinese Garden (currently under construction) which is located within the Park and features an authentic Chinese Garden celebrating Chinese culture in Alberta.
ISL has been named to The Green 30 list, published by Maclean's and Canadian Business magazine as part of their "Green Guide", in recognition of Earth Day. The Green 30 list is compiled by Hewitt Associates and based on input from employees at hundreds of companies that have taken part in the 2010 Best Small and Medium Employers in Canada studies.
This list identifies 30 organizations that are making efforts to mitigate environmental damage by reducing pollution and waste, and by fostering sustainable healthy growth.
